Kerry Miles - Personal Trainer

Hi my name is Kerry Miles. I am 30 years old and have been living in NZ for the past year and a half. I moved here from Canada last august to pursue my passion for snowboarding and learn how to surf. I am currently coaching competitive swimming for the Comet swim team and have taught high school P.E. at Lytton High School.

Not only was I trained by world class trainers and coaches, but I had the honour of coaching national level swimmers. This experience gave me the opportunity to create and implement dryland - strength training programs, general to sport specific.

I am an athlete and have been studying and practicing in many realms of sport and exercise fitness for the better half of my life. I graduated from the National Sports School while heavily competing at a national and international level for competitive swimming and continued on to join the University of Calgary Varsity swim team. In 2006, I graduated with a joint degree in Kinesiology and Education. This degree included such courses as sports nutrition, sports psychology, exercise prescription, biomechanics and exercise physiology.

Teaching physical education and health has provided me with the opportunity to deliver such units as sport academy, 80's aerobics, outdoor education, stretching techniques, tae bo, pilates and all traditional sports.

Unfortunately, my swim career was cut short due to a major snowboarding accident in which I broke my back and collar bone. After recovering I tried a number of different sports including rock climbing, triathlons, and soccer. I have always loved dance and listening to music. I especially like 80's music and have fond memories creating routines to Madonna with my friends in the living room. I am really excited to share my passion for life long fitness and healthy living with outline studio and feel that pole fitness is a great way to achieve this.

"Pole dancing is a way in which I can combine both of my passions, dancing and fitness"

Jeremy Lockwood - Personal Trainer

Hi I'm Jeremy Lockwood one of the Personal Trainers at Outline Health Studio. I come from a long background in the sport and recreation industry having run pool facilities and outdoor recreation programs around the country. As part of this i have been involved in a lot of aquatic fitness programs instructing shallow and deep water aqua-aerobics and been trained by Tony Hoskins one of australisia's fore most aquatic fitness gurus. Incorporating this knowledge with my own sports training in volleyball, basketball, rowing, kayaking and surf lifesaving gave me a great insight into how fitness can be made more interesting an fun. Spending a year studying outdoor recreation and sports with a veteran SAS pt instructor opened my mind more to group fitness activities which I love doing. I have trained groups from all kinds of sports rugby, netball, surf lifesaving, rugby league, rowing, swimming, water polo, soccer, underwater hockey, police recruits and more. The basics to fitness across all sports are fundamentally the same with extra skills involved in the individual sports.

All this activity made things very hard for me when i suffered a serious back injury in 2000 but if it hadn't been for this grounding I don't think I would have recovered from my surgery to the extent that I did. Life lessons learnt in that 2 year period proved invaluable when I had my second major back injury and surgery a couple of years later. Having spent in all, 2 and a half years semi paralyzed I am now back to doing everything I was doing pre injury and more. The time spent in rehab and recovery from these back injuries along with several knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder injuries (yep I've pretty much done it all), along with my background in sports and fitness, and having spent a lot of time with some great orthopedists and physio therapist have given me a great deal of experience in rehab exercise and psychology. Time spent with specialist dietitians has given me a load of experience in weight control management. Although if given the chance to go back and not have the injuries and pain I definitely would choose not to, but would not give up the knowledge and experience gained from them.
